  • I'm new to gardening so I'm still picking up the odd tip from this show but it's not worth wading through an hour of nonsense to get to the one minute I may be interested in, but due to a serious lack of good garden shows I've been watching it anyway.

I've never heard of this beechgrove show so I googled it and it's now on my planner for tomorrow morning so thanks for the heads up guys. image

British Gardens in time was awesome! I really enjoyed it and learnt tons about the fundamentals of garden disign.

I like most was hoping to learn a few things but found it too competitive.

I like my plants to look natural and try to fit in with the surrounding wildlife rather than humanised planting. I reuse and recycle as my number one rule. my big bug for gardening started as a parent helper at my kids primary school and helping out the teachers with the gardening projects.

I agree with brendascott53 - too much judging and not enough gardening. And I'd like to see Fern Brittain getting her hands dirty like Alan Tichmarsh doesn't. - all pots , bulbs , and gloves.

I'd like Channel 5 to have an alternative programme - Extreme Allotment Challenge - where all contestants are given a plot full of weeds - docks, thistles, springwell, and buttercup, a single fork, spade, trowel and wheelbarrow, a few packets of their chosen seeds, and a month to grow produce -  at the end of which they would be judged on the quality not quantity of product and how it was presented.

I wasn't impressed with the first offering but last week it seemed to be growing on me, it doesn't have much instructional value but it captures the competetive side of the allotment. I'll keep watching until I get tired of it. Edd I saw the programme on soil and the mushroom one and found them very interesting.

Gardening programmes don't really show the hard work that has to be done especially on a allotment mainly because it would put off the masses whom just want a instant garden a no work no effort garden I blame Alan t and Joe s for this monstrosity this insult this demeaning of horticultural excellence give me a cottage garden anytime I relish the hard grafting

Is it just me or does anybody else think that felicity Kendell was gorgeous in the good life? That's what got me in to gardening

I'd have to say there's not a single gardening programme which inspires me.

    Devon.

Watched that beechgrove garden for the first time yesterday and thought it was excellent. I have no idea how it has managed to escape my attention for so long but I've gone into Iplayer and downloaded the whole season so far and will be enjoying those this afternoon. Thanks for the heads up guys. image
