Not really my cup of tea but if you see it as entertainment rather than a gardening programme it was no worse than other 'reality' programmes like X Factor etc.
Hi fairly new on here , I loved the big allotment challenge as my family actually enjoy watching it also so don't have to record and watch next day.
That said I was really hoping to get some tips on growing veg especially onions; as I remembered my uncle growing giant onions for show; when i was a small child and all I know about this is Ailsa craig planted new years day in pots.Would really love to know what goes into growing show veg.
It's ok for an hours entertainment and you don't have to be a gardener to watch and enjoy it, but it's a bit 'light' and I would also prefer an hour of Beechgrove (which is better than GW in my opinion).
My 19 year old daughter is enjoying this programme but only for the judging and flower arranging tips. She also asked what curd was so I've made my first ever batch of lemon curd as a result. Maybe now she'll be more interested in my rhubarb chutney and not think it's just a weird Mum thing.
What is interesting about this is that she loathes gardening and anything to do with gardening even though I love it and OH likes it to look good and is happy to do labouring for me. Can't let him too near the plants as he has black thumbs and can't tell a weed from a treasure so I had the most expensive compost heaps ever till I stopped him.
This show is not about gardening of growing fruit and veg. It's a very arbitrary and shallow competition format with some odd, but not compelling characters among the participants. A wasted opportunity in my opinion.

too much time spent on "judging" and not enough on , if it's a real word " allotmenteering"
we saw more of the judge sticking stuff in her mouth than we saw of the contestants sticking stuff in the ground.

Haven't seen this weeks yet, but saw last weeks. Its ok, agree with hostafan, rather too much time spent on judging. Much prefer GW or beechgrove.

Hopefully it might lead the way to more gardening orientated programmes.
