Chit and seed potatoes

My query is related but not the same.  I have bought some Charlotte seed potatoes rather early, as I probably will not sow them until April.  They are just beginning to chit and I am wondering, if I can rub the shoots off and more shoots will grow to replace them so they are ready for sowing March/April?
I don't know if more shoots would grow - it's not something I'd be brave enough to try to be honest.
My Charlotte's are starting to shoot but very slowly, which is fine.
Can you put them somewhere they'll keep cooler (but not get frosted)?
