I have a rambling rector I planted against a wall not realising (stupidly) there was already virginia creeper in the vicinity. They're now battling it out. Which one do you think will win?
The rector every time. I'm sure I can see mine growing when I look out the window. I trimmed the non flowering shoots ( not that there were many of them) about three days ago and now there's more sticking up over two feet long
Right now I feel that if I venture into the garden I am about to get throttled by the long shoots of my wisteria.
I keep having these ideas of planting a wisteria near the clematis and the rambling rector just to see what happens. They are not up against the house.
The clematis I have is a Montana that will go everywhere. I rescued some root cuttings of a Virgina creeper I had moved and they should be ready to plant in the autumn. I have 90ft of denuded Leylandii stumps to cover over.
The rector would sort it out licketysplit. The only problem is that it flowers once a year. I believe it has berries but it looks such a mess after flowering that I give it a number one haircut

I am certainly looking forward to mine flowering, that is a lovely display even if it's next year.
