I have a lot of area to hide. I will look at the David Austin site

No need to fuss over 'Rambling Rector''.. just plonk it in and let it grow...

Beautiful, but you've trained it well - bit more than letting it do it's own thing.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

The Rambling Rector that grows between my garden and my neighbours is prolific and fantastic but with no tree to support it, it has brought down the fence in the past.  I am now weaving it into a nearby hawthorn on one side and considering it I can build an arbor to support it.  This is not a rose for for a small space.  2 years ago my neighbour and I hard pruned this plant which is at least 20 years old. It just comes back with more vigour and judgingby the number of buds it is going to glorious this year.

I think that will be ideal for what I want . Mine only went in in March. it is now growing at about 10cm a week.

one tip. Buy yourself some good quality gloves to help you manage it. I use welders gauntlets.  They cover my arms when I want to tackle the rampant growth and good  hand protection for grabbing thorny branches.

Gosh, that is the smallest, most under control, Rambling Rector I have ever seen!

It is under control. Do you not have nightmares that is has suddenly taken over and covered your house like something out of sleeping beauty.?  image.
