Brukale is a cross between brussel sprouts and kale. I got it from DT Brown.
Marks and Spencer were selling it at about £3 for 8 "flowers" as a speciality a couple of years ago. I thought I would give it a try. Little flowers grow all the way up the stem,a little like blown brussel sprouts. I steam them above the potatoes while the tatties are boiling. They are delish with a bit of butter on. The two kales did well from June until January, then I took the tops out of the brukale which seemed to make the side shoots come on, the brukale is nearly finished now and I am picking purple sprouting broccoli. All this from about 2m x 1m of shaded veg patch.
Believe it or not I was picking curly kale today from last year's plant. It's started going to seed so I used the top as I would for sprouting broccoli, quite delicious steamed. I'll keep the plant going till other greens come on line. Kale's such a good stop gap at this time of year as it's so tough. Ever tried young nettle leaves steamed, full of iron.
Kale is one of my preferred things to grow (although having looked at some photos I don't think my plants grow as big as they could do), as it is quite hardy and good for you. The leaves are meant to taste even better after the first frosts. Also I learnt from past mistakes not to put them out too early, they seemed to struggle a lot more. Happy growing!

My seeds are just 2 inches tall
Do I
1.Pot up and if yes how tall do they need to be and into what size pots
or
2.How tall do they need to be to plant out on Lottie
They're very little for this time of year. When did you sow them?
