I got into black and white film photography last year, this is Cassie, our youngest, observing the garden in our old house. We used to get squirrels and long tits pecking at the window! I'm sure they did it just to taunt the cats.
Introducing this lovely little chap...our new addition to the family. From the local rescue centre. He has already brought us immeasurable happiness in the short time we've had him. Feeling so lucky that he's ours! In the words of Pharrell Williams 'happy, happy, happy, happy'!!
He's lovely Tootles. Haven't seen this thread before. What a difference from all the threads about people complaining about cats. Here is my Alexa, but I wish she'd keep out of my pots!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good to see this thread again. As my Abbie (see photo above) passed away in February I have really missed her in the garden this summer - she was a real sunbather and would always sit on the bench in the sun with me when I had my morning cuppa at the weekends. Have half-heartedly kept an eye out for a new kitten but not properly looked. Maybe after christmas? Our springer spaniel, Murphy, still misses her like crazy (as do we). He used to wash her from ears to tail and they used to lie side by side in the sun in the garden.
Alexa looks very comfy there! We call that position 'the loaf'!
i know how you feel SFord. I lost my beloved Pete in June, and still think about him every day. He's buried in his own special corner of the garden and I'm going to plant wild flowers there as he loved the garden so much. Please please please get another kitty from a rescue centre. I bet any cat would be sooo lucky to live with you!
There are so many that need homes. We got Sid from the Cats Protection League; they do such an amazing job. He has brought so much fun and happiness and we've only had him for a short time! He's 8 yrs old and has some sight problems. No one seemed to want him so we jumped at the chance to adopt him....he is simply adorable!
let us know if Santa brings you a furrrrry friend!
Thanks Tootles, will do! Abbie was originally from the RSPCA. When we got her she was very thin and had no fur on her body as she had pulled it out with stress. Needless to say, she settled in very comfortably and very quickly! We had her for a fantastic 10 years.
We have always had cats and moved to Belgium with 5 of them just over 20 years ago. Now we are down to just one who we adopted after finding her sheltering in an outhouse and starving.
She'd clearly been abandoned and was a very angry, frightened cat but we managed to get her to a vet and have her sterilised. She didn't go outside for 4 months after that as she was afraid of being left out again. That was just over 4 years ago and she's finally accepted that she's secure and is bright and chatty and playful and she's learned to like cuddles but only when she asks.
She does not approve of our two rescue dogs or other cats. Quite a character.

Would love to see a photo of her Obelixx. How kind of you to take her in. Very typical of someone who loves animals, giving and thoughtful. So lovely that she's happy and safe.
Zazu died of old age despite losing a leg to a car when he was 6 but Sacha and Sushi were both run over and killed in our country lane. Two other cats were also run over and two more disappeared without trace so we only take in strays now. They all had such different personalities and were much loved.

Here is my gorgeous baby, he only goes out when I do, then sits with me, he is never far away when I am gardening, mind you, its only because he's a wimp!
There are cattle in the field just now, he's scared of those, he doesnt like the horses up and down the lane, he's scared of tractors and lorries, he's a nervous wreck really.
Although in the summer he can be seen asleep in the middle of the road, thank goodness he has acute hearing!
He is always in before it get dark and at the moment he has gone into winter mood, so not out at all except to put the bird food out with me, then its back in for the day.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
