It's not Chionodoxa, wrong stem & flower, definitely a small Hyacinth.

Sorry BizzieB but there are white Chionodoxa. I have two lovely big clumps of them in the garden.

And I am beginning to think it is a poor Hyacinth. Though why it should suddenly appear after three years is a mystery.

Maybe it was an off-set or a seedling and the parents died. I prefer  hyacinths when they get to this size, they suit my garden better than those lumpy ones

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think it probably is a hyacinth having had a look at some pictures on-line.  I will double check when I get home later.

It's entirely possible it's come up every year and I just haven't noticed!

  • Or, as far as three of my customers are concerned, they smell horrible!

They're OK in the garden, a bit too much in an enclosed space.

Smell is a matter of taste though. One usually popular one that I hate is Philadelphus

Hello Berghill, thank you for your gentle correction image

I'm embarassed to say that I had the white Chionodoxa come through in my garden under the tree with the blue image. A lovely early show of colour.
