A lot of plants grown as annuals are really perennial, they die at the end of the season because they're not hardy. I think nemesia is in this category
In the sticks near Peterborough
thanx nutty,,,i can see some signs of life just about but other looking a bit brown & lifeless.
I didn't know that about annuals so in theory if looked after any annual will flower again & again?
From RHS site
Nemesia can be annuals, perennials or sub-shrubs of bushy habit, with simple, opposite leaves and 2-lipped flowers in short racemes or solitary in the leaf axils
Handy!!
...I love this variety which I also grew last summer.... it really does live up to it's name and smells of sweet vanilla.... I hope to get some more this year - fresh.... I didn't attempt to over winter it .... best of luck with yours.... but I think a heated greenhouse is necessary for such plants as these...
me thinks I will order some plug plants before its too late there aint many about (I can only find 2 place on tinternet),,,,£10 for 5 plants inc delivery seems average
but they are a defo every year for me
if mine survive the winter does anyone know if they are ok to divide?
No - what Nutcutlet said was:
See my bold italics. Nut said 'a lot' not 'all'. True annuals only last one year - that's why they're called 'annuals'.
If there are several stems coming from the roots you may be able to divide nemesia - never tried it myself. But some bedding plants are grown as little clumps of several plants - think nemesia is sometimes grown like this, so you may be able to split it up anyway.
Let us know.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
well folks thanx for all the info, seeds are sown, soft wood cutting on the go & the original plants nice n snug under a fleece,,,I will let you know how the all progress
..there seems to be several of these Vanilla clones around now...I just bought one called 'Vanilla Lady'... perhaps not quite the scent of Wisley Vanilla... but good enough...I don't think it's the same variety under another name....but I would hardly know the difference..
Big choice here.
