sorry about not getting back to you stacey, i havent been online... right, i made a make shift greenhouse and 'heatmat', the temperature of the 'heatmat' gets really warm! so warm i cant leave it on over night incase i wake up to no house! i leave it on about 16hours of the day though... could my seeds have died by now? i mean theyve been potted since the beginning of feb and i have nothing happening, even the cayennes and jalapenos seem to be doing nothing.
Jamie I wouldn't say your seeds have died if they have been kept In moist compost they just probably haven't had the right optimal growing conditions.... However that said I may be tempted to sow another batch in case they are no longer viable.. Start a fresh with your new invention. Do you have more seeds? If not I could send you some and would be happy to do so ( I take it u like the hot varieties!) it's up to you but I couldn't say if they would/wouldn't germinate.....
I'll leave it to the end of the month and start again, I have a couple of seeds left which is why I have been on top of the ones i've already sown. I cant really buy seeds here in cyprus, they haven't really caught up with the spicyness yet!! so it would be great if you could send me some hot seeds please! have you started you batch for this tear yet?
scroggin - i make hot sauce out of mine aswell as freezing them. Last year I dried my cayenne peppers and made homemade cayenne pepper. If you have loads of chillies, experimenting with hot sauces is a good way to use some up, or personally i'd just freeze them for later on...
I am planning on using some of mine for chilli jam and I'm going to dry and dry some to make chilli flakes That's if I get some chillies at all of course
I 'glamourize' my olive oil by decanting some into a large bottle with a couple of chillies, a home grown bay leaf, a couple of home grown garlic cloves and some whole black peppers. The olive oil is then used for frying stuff, and in my salad dressing. It adds a little piquancy to everything.
I have an excellent book called too many chillies with a variety of pickling, oil, sauce and jam recipes as well as dry rub recipes..... How are people chillies doing
Here's a tray of mine... Cherry bomb, satans kiss, scorpion, pepperoncini and poblano.... The others still under plastic are friars hat, fatalli and a long joe!!! They have been in a cooler end so have left them covered and will now put them almost against the radiator!!

I presume it was mice Stacey, whatever it was they obviously weren't keen on the chillies and wasted the lot...that was the most annoying part!!
