Fidgetbones, it always seems a race at this time of year. I have a third flush of DA roses but don't think they will survive even a light air frost. At least with plants in pots you can chase the sun Hope the cannas make it!
Just a quick question. Ive been looking back at some of the photos and quite like the idea of growing a Canna. Would they overwinter in a cold greenhouse?
I'm especially interested in colour at this time of year and not from flowers! I have plenty of design work to do still, so happy gardening to you all
Hi everyone.
Well my garden is as dry as a bone with some very obvious gaps showing too and the odd pot I forgot to water but oh well...I am busy dodging the spiders this year planting spring bulbs on mass and adding pots for a more lived in feel.
Thank you Lesley. I just stuck the canna there till it's finished, then I'll bring it indoors for winter. There will be something more permanent there - possibly my Dad's pot with a change of plants through the year in it. Not decided yet.
Funny you mentioning lighting - I've just been considering them for various bits of the garden. Might put some in when the extension's getting built
Cannas don't even need light Yvie, just protection from cold and wet. Mine have been kept in garages or sheds. That one of mine was in a corner of the kitchen last winter, behind a cupboard....I forgot about it
Garden looks lovely Wintersong. Was just wondering how you were the other day as you've not been on for a while! Lovely colour on the creeper - and the arch looks as if it's been there forever!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I can see it from the house fidget, but the screen's in front of two matching borders so it's designed to be viewed from the opposite side of the garden (where all the raised beds are) and is symmetrical from that viewpoint. There's grass going in front of it and a path right round. Garden runs across the back of the house so it's wider than it's long/deep if that makes sense.

here is my horseshoe shaped border in panorama. All taken yesterday.
This is its 3rd year, I am hoping to be able to divide more of the perennials and together with all the different geraniums Bekkie sent, that I wont need to grow so many annuals next year, I have a feeling I wont have so much time to spend on it.
The next two are of the long border from both ways, only dug and planted this year.
There are a few gaps noe where I have pulled some out.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

I like the little window in the screen, fairygirl.
Is it a view from a window in the house,? or just on passing.
