Mine didn't do great either last year. although I had an abundance of cherries form, all I got were cherries smaller than a marble. This year the buds all seem to be forming all at the tips of the branches!
From looking at your picture you have some nice buds along the full length of the branches. Mine however are confined to the tips and bare the rest of the length. Thinking pruning will be required this year and hope new shoots will emerge
i dont know a lot about trees but the plan to pruning yours sounds good and hopfully you will get more shoots on the stems. i should do it soon thou?????? good luck
Steve 309 i dont think they are tip bearers as i now have blosom just starting to come out all over the branches i really hope i get some cherrys this year

sorry it took so long todo this but here is the pic of my morello cherry tree with loads of buds this year i hope i well get some cherrys
the tree is now put in a nice sunny spot on my patio
