Cherry Tree Morello
RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Morello is the best sour cherry for growing in the UK.It will happily grow on a north wall or fence and still bear fruit. Crisp white Spring blossom is followed in August by the ripening of dark red ,acid cherries that are produced in abundance.
The cherries produced are a culinary gem, superb in jams ,preserves, pies ,sauces and alcoholic beverages.Morellos can be eaten fresh when really ripe but they do have a very sharp-sweet edge.
Although partially self fertile an additional pollinator will enhance the crops.
It was probably too young to flower. Can you see any clusters of fat buds on it now?
hi nutcutlet
thanks for the reply the tree is small about four foot from rootstock to tip.i got it from asdas last year so this is the second year.it has three branches bendy so i can tye them in to train the tree.and there is about twenty or more new buds at the min
the tub/put that it is in is about two foot square like i said it has a small water chamber that fill up to last about one week ish les in a hot summer. wiill post pics later today for you to see it.
Righto. I'm not surprised about no blossom/fruit but the small number of leaves doesn't sound good

I'm keeping an eye on this thread - I'd quite like a morello but not sure where to put it yet.
