Oh he's just a pudycat!! - He did eat the neighbour's rabbit last Summer, and he did chase a labrador down the road when it cocked it's leg on HIS gate. As Bengals are a cross between a Domestic and an Asian Leopard Cat heralding from the USA - I would expect him to be a little on the wild side - But he's still just a pudycat!.
The Ascending and Descending Moon is of more importance to gardeners than the Waxing and Waning Moon - The latter being used more closely in relation to Mood Swings . Originally it was believed that the light of the Moon was of prime importance to the reactions of plants, but following scientific studies, and the close links with tidal flows - It has been accepted that the position of the Moon in relation to the Earth and the Sun, has a more pronounced effect, which is strengthened or weakened by the Waxing and Waning, as it is by the positioning of other Planets and Constellations. - I agree it sounds confusing , but it also makes perfect sense, particularly if you test plant - ie Grow and harvest a row of plants conventionally and one by the Moon. The Conventional plot (without the aid of artificial fertilisers and chemical prevention of pests) will show a marked difference by being up to a week to 10 days behind in growth/ripening and harvesting.
An easy guide to Working with the Moon is:- When the Moon is Rising - Sow/Graft/Harvest Leaf Vegetables Flowers Seed Crops (Peas Beans) & Fruits
When the Moon is Descending - Prepare and enrich the soil/Thin and Prick out seedlings/Take Cuttings split and layer plants. Pinch out tips and prune. Harvest Root vegetables.
First Snowdrops out today!!! Started to crystallise 1st primroses for Easter.
I crystalise the flowers of violets and primroses to decorate my Easter Chocolate Cakes. The French do not decorate their cakes with bunnies and chicks but make chocolate models of hens and rabbits, preferring to decorate the cakes with fruit and flowers. Primroses look stunning. Sowed Tomatoes/Aubergines/Peppers/Chillies and Water Melons in trays yesterday. Now covering kitchen table as too cold in greenhouse (Only 10 Degrees) - I know it's too soon, but always worth a go. Also popped 40 Petit Provencal Peas in a tray (covered with a cloche as advised Nanny) Left that in greenhouse with Boots the Bengal standing guard! Did anyone else sow or plant over the w/e?? Notice my weather report right so far - Hurray!
Hello no gardening / allotment at moment , helping O/H younger sister decorate flat , nearly finished , can't wait to get outside to get rid of smell of paint
Nothing to do with gardening, you can buy low odour paint these days, we use water based gloss, the oil based stuff gives me a stinking headache and sore throat! Filed the heated propogator, silly women from Suttons, told me to pop the peat disks in the peat pots and soak, it didnt work, luckily company in Devon I bought my chillis from gave correct instructions, pop disk into plastic (sarnie?) bag with water and soak, that did the trick, but I wasnt well, so didnt do the sowing.
Waiting for central heating oil delivery today - don't like the smell of the lorry fumes, gives me dreadful head. No change to Lunar Calender today from 15/16/17th so will give you next 14 days tomorrow. Bear with me, have to wait by phone for this delivery man, as they always get lost, even when they've been before!!
I waded out in my wellies yesterday - nearly lost them - and took cuttings from the pollarding willows in the paddock and planted them along the stream to help provide more windbreak and suck up excess moisture as our paddock floods at the drop of a hat since the local council "improved" the stream's flow through the next village.
Also took cuttings of the salix contorta and stuck them in a pot of water to root as my wellies aren't high enough to do the rest of the stream bank in its current flooded state.
Freezing here at the mo so no other garden or sowing yet. Apart form walking the dogs I'm sewing instead but we'll be tackling drunken fence posts and then replacing broken trellis panels next week.
Set OH to calculate the paint needed to do a bedroom, bathroom, landing, hall, stairs and kitchen and pantry and it will cost over €750 in Belgium so we've booked a day return on a ferry for €55 and even counting the cost of a full tank for the car we'll save over €300 buying it in Canterbury! £7 a litre compared with €20+ here for the same paint!
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

French Paint doesn't stick to the walls and comes out the wrong colour!! - So we buy UK Paint for all our pals and ourselves when we go over. Seem to come back with more paint than groceries! I'm sorry but wet wet wet, and potential for snow before the end of the month despite warmth this w/e. Can't win can we?!
Here is the last Lunar Calender to complete our year since last February.
18/19th Feb - Moon ascending in Gemini Flower Days. Prick out cauliflowers sown 13/14 january maintaining heat. Plant Anemones/wisteria and clematis.
20/21st Feb - Leaf Days Moon in Cancer. Plant under cover lettuce plants and those sown 14-17th Jan. leaf Day until 2.30pm on 21st then canges to Fruit.
22/23/24th Feb - Full Moon 6.20pm on 22nd Fruit Days Earth up Broad Beans against potential high winds expected at this time. Earth up fruit bushes to strengthen root growth. If it is mild prune Fanned apples and pears. Prune peaches when they begin to flower then spray with Bordeaux Mixture against fungal growth.
25/26/27th Feb - Moon descending in Virgo. Root Days. Plant first potatoes like Amandine and Belle de Fontenay outside. (Not sure about this myself) Plant jerusalem Artichokes (Now this I have done in Feb successfully) and Horseradish.
28/29th Feb - Moon descending in Libra. Flower Days Prick out begonias sown 9/10 Feb. Prune Shrub and continuous flowering Roses down to ground level.
So there we are another year's Lunar Calender Gardening complete. I am happy to continue if you wish, particularly as we are adding bio dynamic methods into the 'mix' - Shall we continue this thread or not. Would like your thoughts and suggestions. Has the Calender worked for you/Interested you or made any differences to your Garden or gardening methods -Do let me know.
Yes please. It's very useful to me especially when propagating but also just for basic organisation of tasks on days I'm free to garden - and the weather lets me!
Maybe start a new year thread so the mods don't split it later on?
PS - I buy British made paint whether here or there and wood stains are 2 or 3 times the price here too so they're a UK purchase.

Hello Biofreak , Yes Please always interesting , if you are happy to carry on , eg. in greenhouse I have some horse radish plants but having read your email will plant on one of the days mentioned , have done some planting as per your calendar , as Obelixx always subject to the weather
I assume the bio year is from March to February , so you could start a different blog , however , I don't think the moderators will split as this is only page 13 , where as Hello Forkers was over 2000
Paint , did you known that B & Q do a discount card called Diamond Club and you get 10% extra off on Wednesdays , think you have to be over 55 to qualify , you both sound to young but if you have a realatives might be useful to get hold of one
Obelixx , we have a stream at side of garden and have planted Osier , a type of willow , infact they are due to have there yearly cut soon
Often thought about a book club but once you have read a book why talk about it , am I missing the point ?
