Really? I was reading an article on it in the i newspaper about a year ago. I think it may be available online and same article also appeared in the Independent.
Trouble is I think online version truncated therefore not all info available that I got with printed version. See the pic though, he keeps the flowerheads on the crop. I think he said a reason for not removing them but I can't remember what it was now. The person I work with likes decapitating them even though I said not to.
I have never had much success with growing garlic. I grow them in raised beds should this be a problem and if not is it alright to add manure to the compost or will this make the soil too rich
I have just planted some garlic cloves in deep troughs in my greenhouse. Can you please tell me if, because they are not open to the environment, should I water the soil occasionally before they start to show actual growth.

Gardener Graham , I did the same the first time I planted garlic , it did grow but not very well
If you have only just planted it dig it up and replant , if not buy some more
