I've checked your account, and although you have 'Default to off' for forum settings, you still have a list of followed threads in the 'Forum notifications' box. You'll need to remove these by clicking the 'x' next to each thread name in order to stop receiving notifications about these threads.
I just tested this and can't replicate the problem. Could you just check this again and let me know if you're still experiencing the problem? It could have just been a temporary 'blip'.
Do you mean Internet Explorer, rather than Outlook Express? The avatar upload problem was a bug with Internet Explorer version 8, for which a fix has now been implemented. You should now be able to upload an avatar. If not, please let me know, and we can have someone investigate further.
Reply to star gaze lily: sorry about this. The issues with the private messages are still being worked on and I hope the fix will be live on the site shortly. I'll chase this up again with the team tomorrow.
I've got my settings set so that I don't get notifications to replies to posts, and that works fine - I don't get notifications.
However, I've also set it so that I get notifications of PMs, but I don't get them, neither do I get a number in brackets next to my Sign in thingy in the top right hand corner, so I have to go to my PMs page to check.

sorry it's labled discussions started
Hi Daniel,
I prefer not to have emails every time (if pos just for PMs or not at all).
I have selected no notifications in message settings but I am still receiving emails.

Thank you for update Daniel.
As an out of date bod still running Outlook Express I look forward to being able to post an avatar at some point in the future

Daniel, I can't see my PMs, its just a blank page or sometimes with a squashed tomato. I can't send any either.
