When we ended up with fence panels after a recent storm we shredded them and used them to cover a soil path through the bottom of the garden. They chiped into pieces about 1inch square and gave a nice firm base to what had been a muddy path.
No we have a shredder which we use for all sorts of things, and it helps with getting rid of things that don't do in the composter. Means we get far more in both our composter and the garden waste bin.

Thanks for the ideas all. I did think about making some sort of box. The fruit type box always costs a fortune when you see them for sale
My garden is fully enclosed so no access for hedgehogs unfortunately Farmergeddun.
with our broken panels we keep a few for re-placing planks that have been broken by for example the Badger barging through the fence.

Currently have a spare panel (just in case!) but keeping a couple of boards is a good idea.
