Oh Bill I'm so glad your wife is able to be with him. I hope that the nurses are able to keep your son comfortable and that you and your wife are both remembering to look after your own health and you will need all the strength you can muster.
He hasn't had food or water since last Friday. All they are giving him is morphine. Yesterday (Monday) they moved him into what we call the death room, its a private room.Thats so it will not upset the other patients when he passes.
I hope the room provides your son with peace and quiet and the chance to be generally undisturbed by the day to day rattles of tea cups and inane chatterings as much as it protects the other patients who must find it a little unsettling as they undertake their own battles. Although its nick name is less than pleasant what a lovely idea that they make space for rooms likes this so that your wife can also have some privacy away from the curious onlookers.
Has the weather settled enough that you might get chance to visit again? I know it seemed positively unbearable last night you sent us photographs with more snow than I have ever experienced in person.

Dear Bill, I don't really know what to say to you. I hope he is asleep and peaceful and that the end comes soon. x
Bill - memories of my dad's passing this time last year, similar situation/experience but at the right time of his life. best wishes.
