I love the idea of you keep the old ways go ing biz liz. What do you do now?

Do you mean milking my cows WW? Last one died a few years ago, aged 17. Didn't want any more as children had left home and husband had died. She hadn't had a calf for a few years and had got a bit on the plump side! But French supermarkets sell pasteurized milk now. Doc said I shouldn't milk as arthritis was starting in my fingers.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Well, The hellebore collection has just been increased by three. I went out for horticultural grit. First garden centre, price has gone up to £5 a bag . £4 last year, and 3 the year before. Their hellebores were helleboring, greeny white wishy washy things. Next garden centre, I got a Mrs  Ranicar for £10 and a spotted pink Harvington for £13.  Local nursery next. i have been keeping an eye on a load of hellebore marked Queen doubles, in a corner, left over from last year, in smallish pots, but with buds coming. as they were mixed, I wanted to see a flower out first. They were priced up in the small pots at £5.99. Then someone decided to repot the lot and put them in the poytunnel.  I found a nice speckled white double, no price. No one had cut last years leaves off, so it looked a bit tatty. How much ? to the lady on the checkout. She looked at it, Oh its one of last years that have just been repotted ( I knew that), will £3.50 be all right?   Thank you very much. The flower head is not as big as Mrs Ranicar, but a nice position and some feeding, and it should be good.

I didn't get any grit. I might order a tonne bag, it will last a year or three, but cheaper in the long run.

  • Isn't Mrs Ranicar gorgeous? image   Can we see a pic of the speckled white double?
