We've had to refelt roof the shed as well.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Hi all,

All this talk of duvets is making me feel like I need an afternoon nap. image

Lilly, I'm still on soups and stews, comfort food, easy to eat. I know I am a wuss. image

Beautiful sunny day here, perfect for gardening but now the guests have gone I want to give the house a really good scrub and I have to go out all day tomorrow and Thursday on various errands so it has to be today. image Don't want to be caught short should some other guests book in. image A nap still sounds enticing though. image

I visited my guests' new house this morning, had a quick coffee with them, it is very nice, or certainly has the potential to be (purely cosmetic) when they get sorted. One bit of sad news for them to dampen the occasion (they have waited nearly 6 months for this house sale to go through), their poor little dog died on the operating table of the vets this morning. It was rushed in on Sunday with internal bleeding and sadly didn't make it. Poor thing, it really was a lovely little dog. image

Anyway, I must get on, catch you all later, hope the storms in the UK aren't too bad.

Lyn, my parents used to have a water filter: but because they're used to the water (as I must have been once!) They don't think it makes much difference and are not terribly inclined with gadgets that involve effort.

Its incentive at least to get the house finished (removing the plaster off the walls starts as soon as spring appears) at least so that they can make the trek up here instead of us spending all our spare time on the M1.

The dog is snoring away next to me: what did I do in life to deserve not just a partner that snores all night but a dog that snores all day?

I am impatiently staring at my hyacinth bulbs: I need some colour in the house (and not just the paint samples on the walls). My fault for not planting sooner! (Well by planting: putting them in a glass jar hardly counts). My daffodils are at least showing sign that (providing the wind doesn't send them in the direction of Norway) we'll have something pretty to look forward too very soon.

Anyone for a mug of really wet tea?

Pat - Hope you feel better soon, from one sickbed to another.

DD - so sorry to hear about the guest's dog.

Hello folks - I'm back image

Would you believe it, at Ma's Lovely Home they have Day-time and Night-time ... apparently it takes some getting used to but it's nice to have a change ... makes things more interesting.  image

I mentioned that I'd be seeing Wonky later this week.  "Oh, do you know her?  That's nice" image

Thanks for helping Wonky sort out her TOGs - apparently she phoned here just after I'd set out for Ma's visit.  Can't have her and Lovely Hub 'boiling in the bag' image

Shall go and make another cushion instead.

Thanks everyone with helping with my togs image when I went to the shop they had display duvets out so you could have a squish and I went for the 10 tog in the end as I realised that my fancy eiderdown is the same thickness as the 7 tog. Now I think I have a duvet for every eventuality! image

I'm afraid  . Also guilty of taking my luxuries when I stray from home image Darjeeling tea bags, pillows, and laptop loaded with audio books as I have trouble sleeping at home let alone anywhere else! image

    I'm here Lizzieimage

Just had my dose of Winterwatchimage. Love seeing all the wildlife we have on our doorsteps ......fascinating stuff.  We have buzzards here - recognised the cry as soon as he appeared on the screen - great to get a close up view, as ours are normally flying many feet above us.  Quite worrying just how wierd this winter has been already though .....the climate is a changing, there is no doubt about thatimage

Littlest chicklet felt todays crop of exams went ok ...another lot on Thursday and then she can relax for a nano second before the next lot are upon her.  Don't believe anyone who tells you today's kids don't have to work hard at schoolimage.

Lesley - will definitely be giving cleomes another go this year, but will wait til April before I start them off.  My early sowings will be rudbeckia, echinacea, scabious and verbascumimage
