Hello Lyn I meant to tell you the other day, that gooseberry has very spreading growth and needs a lot of space - on the plus side it's really easy to layer for cuttings, as well as being the best tasting yellow dessert gooseberry I've come across in a long time
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Afternoon all, Beautiful sunny day here, been out and watered the pots, don't like to do it in the evening as the nights get colder.
Finally, my canna Durban has flowered, thought I wasn't going to see any flowers, feel quite privilleged that both of them flowered in the first year, especially as I've never grown them before. When it's open properly I'll post a piccy.
Been to see mum and she looks more like her old self, so really pleased, and relieved. Just got to get hubby through Wednesday now.
Have absolutely no idea why that picture made you giggle Hosta
I bet Wonky is shattered Dove especially starting a new job at the same time.
Slept like a log so didn't see the moon. Typical any other night and I'd be wide awake.
Thanks dove, I haven't planted him yet, but have plans for a big space, I need to move a raspberry plant, got a dilemma there, will compose a thread later.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Sorry to hear about you Mum Liri. Hope she's OK and not too shaken up by her fall.
Pleased to hear your Mum is feeling better now Yvie, Mum's do cause a bit of worry for us don't they? Dove, be kind to Wonky and stay healthy.
I've just come in for a rest from cutting back a huge laurel and thought I'd have a cool down before getting to the bits I can't reach. Many trips to the tip to follow.
Gertie I've had a thing about slugs ever since, as a youngster, I rode my bike over one and half of it stuck to my bare leg.
Just a quick look in, have got stuck into the garden today, managed to squeeze a visit to a plant nursery in yesterday so have lots of new plants to play with , don't want to get distracted and the weather is gorgeous.
Hope you are all ok, had a quick flick, see Hosta is being his normal cheeky self, but daren't go back to far, I will lose my momentum.

Afternoon all - yet another glorious day - this is obviously our little Indian Summer.
Sorry to hear about your mum Liri but glad Yvie's is on the mend. I do hope they can sort your OH's eye out Yvie - sight is so very precious. Best wishes to anyone else feeling blue or under the weather.
Just finished cutting the grass (again). Some people have been talking about 'last cut of the season' - mine is still very much a once a week job.
Had a lovely bike ride yesterday. It incorporated the historic Butley Ferry across the Butley Creek - the last day it's running until next Easter. It entailed pushing bikes along grass river banks, over stiles and finally pushing over a flooded jetty before we had to manhandle 2 bikes and 2 riders into a tiny rowing boat. Suffice to say bikes & riders had more than a smattering of river mud on them by the end - but we met the lovely oarsman & dogs and it was an adventure - & life would be poorer without a few of those along the way
Slept awkwardly on Saturday so had a very stiff & painful neck yesterday which kept me awake until the wee hours last night. But the bonus of that was looking at the garden brilliantly lit by the super moon. At about 1.30am a hedgehog put in an appearance snuffling around the lawn (hurrah!) and just after 3.00am I saw the 'blood moon' - partially eclipsed. So every cloud etc etc

PS - Cheeky boy Hosta!!
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
