Not usual for me to share personal stuff on the forums (that's no criticism of those who do) but I wanted to say that yesterday we held the funeral of my second eldest sister.
My point of posting this is that she spent her last week in Mid-Staffs Hospital and I would like people to know, that in spite of that hospital's unenviable recent reputation, her care in those final days was second to none and in spite of being a hopeless task, their efforts to save her were exemplary.
I'm not looking for sympathy, but I think if this hospital is ever going to progress from its awful past reputation, people like me should spread the word.
Sorry to hear that David and I know you don't want sympathy but my thoughts are with you and your family.
Well said re Mid Staffs hospital, it's good to hear that there are some positives coming out of there now and you're right, people are too quick to criticise or complain and not quick enough to give credit when due.
I'm so sorry about your loss David, and you're so right. Hospitals can get bad reputations and it's the only thing we hear about. My mum died in a local hospital after having an aneurism. It often gets bad publicity but I can't praise the staff highly enough. The doctor who spoke to my Dad was incredible. How do you tell a man in his late eighties sitting in a wheelchair that his wife of over fifty years isn't going to live? He got down on his knees beside him and held his hand. I'll never forget that.
In time, that care your sister received will be a huge comfort you all David.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I'm so glad your sister had good care, and good for you for speaking well of the hospital - I'm sure that most hospital staff are fantastic - how they're able to keep going as well as they do, what with the financial squeezes, staffing shortages etc, is beyond me. It must be soul destroying for good NHS staff when their hospital gets such a bad name.

David thank you for reminding us to look beyond the difficulties, mishaps and mistakes, there is always plenty of unnoticed good around as well. If only we could all see the positives in life. Why and when did the negatives take over, but that seems to be society these days.
