Oh Matty I used to love going to Slimbridge. Amazing how they can tell which swans have returned by their beak marking. OK I'm talking at least 45 years ago when I lived between Bristol and Bath. Hope the wedding venue research goes well and everyone is happy. Good luck tomorrow.
I sowed seeds on 9th and one tray is showing signs of life - it is amazing.
Pdoc I've still got the salvias to put in the propagator but one success has been dahlia bishops children which germinated within three days. I've got to decide what to do with them next. Do you just remove the lid to start with or remove them from the heat? Any tips gratefully received
Yvie well done mate. That's a lot of things accomplished today plus the future roses and thanks for the bike trailer idea, I might just look into that although I can hear OH complaining about my safety on the roads so hmm, we will see.
I keep asking him to buy me an old lady's shopping trolley for GC visits because I always buy too much and resent the expense of a taxi home. It's a tenner back from the proper GC!!! And not so far to walk that I can't do it on foot
Serving OH scampi now and chicken breast for me with some garden programs thrown in, he found the Christine Walkden series for me on YouTube yesterday and that's saying sommik as he really hates listening to her
Bekkie - I think it might be too late to prune the vine, though it will depend on your local conditions. They bleed badly if the sap is rising when you do it... Have you got room to tie the whippy bits in?
Yvie & Punkdoc - totally with you on the value of beds over lawn. I have a project to remove quite a bit of my lawn this year, and am monitoring it currently to judge the right moment to begin - it's so soggy I daren't go on it yet. But plants from the border and rockery (primula, ajuga, soldanella and convallaria) are already invading the grass so I think they're telling me something! Apart from which, I can't just leave things as they are or I'll get bored. And more soil means MORE PLANTS...
Verdun: good advice re sunscreen. And/or a shady hat. Both my parents - keen gardeners - had basal cell carcinomas removed (that's the non-invasive cancer) because of over-exposure to sun, and my sister has had 2 primary malignant melanomas, though she's now fine, just checked yearly. It's really not worth the risk.
Still dull, cold & cloudy here. I'm waiting for a good drying wind - and some sun, please!
Hope Dove & Panda are enjoying their GC-and-snowdrop filled day.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
The lovely man at my local pet/garden shop has just given me 36 packs of last years seeds, bless him! Looks like i might be growing tomatoes after all! , and after i walked George, i took OH's grandads 2yr old cocker spaniel out for an hour, had a lovely walk, listened to all the birds singing, glad i didnt go back to bed
Liri, thanks for the advice, will find a way of tieing the vines up, suspected i was too late! Hope your garden dries out soon so you can get at it
Lesley, glad youre ok, except lack of sleep! I could always send my OH to stay with you, we were also up at stupid o'clock because he was hungry!
Winter, if you are anything like me, dont get a trolley, i always over filled mine, ended up pulling my shoulder and ripping the bag on the trolley!
Matty, Hope you had a nice day looking at venues
P'doc, im sure your seeds will germinate just fine, if you had a dog, you would be out walking rather than propogator watching!
Oooo, Yvie rose shopping! What colour are you thinking of?
BL, hope that sore throat dosent develop into a cold! Glad Tigger is still enjoying his special food
Afternoon all. Managed to get to work, only very nearly throw up during the tour but that was fortunately right at the end and next to the loos! The class seemed to enjoy themselves and I am now tucked back up on the sofa resting and writing invoices. Partner is NOT happy that I went to work. Unfortunately until we win the lottery and I can start training apprentices we're a little stuck in that department.
Reggie is tucked up beside me fast asleep: its a hard life being a dog when there's so much sleeping to be had! He makes such a wonderful guard dog.... of the biscuits. I'm not sure he'd wake up if you tried to steal me (good lord! I'm a fat puffy ball of coughing fits and lucozade!)
Lesley, I grew Bishop's Children dahlias from seed a few years ago and left them in the ground over winter, they still come up, but I don't know how they'll be this summer, been a cold winter so far.
Have been clearing up the mess in the veggie garden. Hadn't even cleared away the old peas, broad beans and runner beans.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Have had a smashing day out with Dove - she took all the photos I did think that I would share my purchases with you all:
So, as you can see, 2 pots of aconites, 1 pot of G elwesii, 1 pot of viridapi (?) and 1 pot of G Lady Beatrix Stanley They will all be planted (and labelled) by my birch tree
Am now on train home.
Winter, how did you manage all that on a bicycle??????
