Main flowers on show BM were roses along with sweetpeas, achillea, Lillies, Delphiniums, Lupins and Astrantia.  I would say it was probably early July, although Im not an expert and others may be able to spot more unusual flowers that could possibly pinpoint it more accurately.

I've been to Norwell a couple of times Fidget. Andrew Ward does some  good talks as well, I think he's doing one for a local garden group in September.

For those thinking of going to Sissinghurst - I can thoroughly recommend it. I have been 2 or 3 times and the best time to visit will depend a bit on your personal interest. In spring they have fantastic displays of tulips etc but my favourite visit was at the peak of rose season - stunning.

Be warned though it gets very very busy - especially with coach trips. (it is on all the Japanese & American tourist trails and lots of native garden clubs / WI etc organise trips there).

I think it is busier at the weekends and you might be better aiming for either a very early or very late visit.

Thank you top bird for that info image Just watched it on I players Yviestevie and loved the whole programme, especially perfect as non stop rain still.  I'm guessing it's last week of June early July so think we have missed the boat this year image AT said not far from Dixter too, maybe we could make a big two days of it next year and go mid week like top bird suggests? image

Back from work - flipping freezing wind out there so think I will catch up on here instead with a cuppa image I could always do the rest of the ironing of course...

OL - seriously - do watch your ankle. I ripped tendons in mine a couple of years ago and it took ages to be right again. I had to be careful when I started walking again too. 90 plus Munros without any serious injuries and I did it falling off a little footpath near the shops. image

Verd- I can't add anything to what's already been said. I hope you can find a way to deal with it and we're all here for anyway -as you know.

The doctor's surgery is now closed... the proper doc will take over later I'm sure image

Wonder if he's been listening to the Top 100 guitar riff thingy on the radio... image

It's a lovely day now, but I'm not. Done nothing, but as I'm feeling too pathetic to do anything I have found 2 new mail order French nurseries and I've spent too much money ordering plants I have no room for. I shall blame Verdun, he keeps talking about plants, such as Agastache Black Adder and Anemone Wild Swan that I can't find in the local GCs. So I have 19 plants of different varieties arriving in 3 days! They will have to be potted on and live in a cold frame until next year.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

KEF, swallowing alcohol sounds a good antiseptic idea, but I don't feel like it - I'll try it again when I feel better.

Well I've managed to do some weeding and weeded by embarrassingly overgrown veg patch for the first time in 6 weeks......yes 6 weeks. I have ti say my ankle is now well and truly hurting, it's the bending down that hurts it, hence why I haven't been weeding!! But, it won't do itself and having dropped many hints it was just getting worse!!

Anyway, quick question, will squash mature still when it gets cold? I know you can get winter squash but is that a variety? I have a couple of babies but nit sure if they will grow now? I also have one lovely Crown Prince, not sure how big to leave it until I pick it?

Chickweed is a great green manure, the soil where I've pulled it up is lovely image
