Because where I planted my snowdrops the ground was still damp (read - muddy knees but not puddle wet) I didn't water them in. Now I'm starting to wonder whether I should have watered them in anyway - does it do more (like compacting the soil) than just provide dampness?
I'm not sure Clarington, I watered mine but only a bit. My leaves seem a bit droopy but I'm assuming this is because they die down anyway as the flower stem (with no flower now) is upright????
Clari and Tracey - I planted stuff on Tuesday and Wednesday - didn't really water them in much - only the more sheltered ones as was frost was due. If the ground's wet I wouldn't worry too much. If they were suffering you'd know, and you can give them a bit of water if they start looking very sad. They're pretty robust.
Back to work in a few minutes so will have a quick look round. That's our spring over now - damp and cold
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Afternoon all..... I don't have a migraine!!!! Lol @ fairy re growth on me raspberry ripple.... Mrs g I have just left my monarda and echinecea have done nothing with them but they are in a sheltered sunny spot under the protection if a highly pruned for tree.... The mat of monarda leaves hasn't disappeared all winter but they are really putting in some growth ATM... I'm going to have to thin them out as there are loads and loads will take a pic later... Don't know wether to do it now or wait another few months when they have sprouted a bit more after the frosts. The raspberry ripple ecinecea is the only one with growth ( I have no luck normally so the others are probably dead!!)
Wow, its hot in Sheffield now, i have just been lazing around, imagining how the garden will look this year and deciding where to put various new plants, plus the cuttings etc., growing in the greenhouse.
A little while ago I was looking at a rather tatty old heather that I like as it provides early nectar and I saw 6 butterflies on it, 5 tortoiseshells and 2 commas, hows that for March!
Stacey you can divide the Monarda by just digging it up and pulling the clump apart. You can do that anytime now.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Tracey, Clari when I planted my snowdrops I gave them a little watering. The next day-afternoon they looked a little droopy so I've watered them every day since and they are standing upright again.
Went out with OH this morning to buy a new lawn mower and came back with 2 foxgloves, 2 cyclamem and 3 snakes head fritillarys (which had 8in each pot) as well as the mower
Hmm... Mine were (this morning) looking very sorry for themselves but having spent the weekend in the hands of the courier (despatched Thursday - arrived Monday) I wasn't sure what to expect. Certainly didn't see any standing upright they were all flat out on the lawn.
How long til yours were standing up SG Lilly? I wont be home until very late tonight (volunteering my grease monkey skills at the museum) so will give them a light watering in the morning if we've not had another frost.
Mrs. G - enjoy that sunshine! I'm sat in the office in Sheffield and all I'm getting is the odd glimpse of daylight. It looks lovely out there!
