Having watched Carol Klein sowing seeds last week and being new to gardening, does anyone know the name of the wooden tool she uses to level out the compost in the trays.
You can just use a wooden baton like good 'ol Monty
Mix 2tbsp of white, granulated sugar with 1tbsp of water and place on a spoon for a Bee to reach. Sometimes they're too exhausted to reach back to the hives when it's hot and dry.
I wanted one for around my flowers so bought just the hoe head and then a broomstick and cut the broom stick to the length I wanted. Or there's this one on eBay £194 + £2.50 p&p
I think you might be wasting your time Selina. Pam asked that question and received an answer back in 2011. 😕?
Well spotted Kitty - I am a new member here so was browsing through the threads and when you see a question your natural instincts to help kick in and I overlooked checking the date. I'll remember now I feel embarrassed 🙈 🤦♀️

A couple of decades ago I bought a Flymo, it was OK for about five years then I had to replace the motor which burned out. Fortunately there was a Flymo spares department at the time in North Manchester. But it only lasted another five years.
Then I bought a Bosch. It worked well but was a nightmare to change from "blow to suck."
That packed up after five years so I bought a "cheapo" on eBay for less than forty quid. Lots of vendors sell them. That was Ok. it was 3kw but had a small bag. The big problem was it picking up dry soil and it becoming impacted around the impeller housing. You could clean it out, but you had to complete dismantle it, about two dozen screws!
In April I bough a Flymo Scirocco direct from them. That lasted a month before the motor packed up. Trying to get repaired was nightmare as the servcice agents didn't have any motors there weren;ty any available.
Flymo were that embarrassed they gave me a refund.
So now I have this "Grizzly." It was about twenty quid dearer than the Flymo, with a three year guarantee.
It's 3k same as the Flymo but far more powerful. You can vary the power it uses with the control. Like the Flymo you can access the impeller housing to clear out any mud by a door.
The impeller which are always a composite, plastic, or nylon has one steel blade to cut anything sucked up that the other blades can't shred.
But the best bit is the detachable wide fitting scoop, which means you can "hoover up" leaves on patios, paths and even the lawn just like a normal vacuum cleaner.

The wooden tool that Carol Klein used to level out the compost in the trays is commonly referred to as a "dibber" or a "seed tray dibber." It's a simple gardening tool, usually made of wood, with a pointed end for making holes in the soil or compost for planting seeds. In this context, she likely used it to create evenly spaced holes for sowing seeds in the seed trays. If you're new to gardening, a dibber can be a handy tool for precise seed placement.
That's not what the query was though [umpteen years ago] @StickShowIO. The person was asking what she used to level out the compost. That's not what a dibber is for.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Janesmith - depending on your seed trays I fill mine 2/3rds full with seed compost then using the bottom of the next seed tray press down lightly. Scatter the seeds. Cover with more compost and press down lightly again. Make sure your soil is damp and not cold. Works for me.
