During the winter we had our cherry tree cut back and it hasn't blossomed this year.  Has it died?

Does anyone know of a good alternative to peat based compost. I have tried some peat free but not had much success. I have tried our own garden compost mixed with soil but I need it for seed sowing. I'm not anywhere near  as knowledgeable as the rest of you so any advice would really be appreciated.

Can anyone recommend a quality min/max thermometer? I have bought and thrown out several over the past couple of years, both digital and Mercury-type ones. They all seemed OK at first, but they just stop working after a few months. I have tried cheap and medium-priced ones so far. I would be prepared to pay more if that is necessary, but I'm a bit wary about risking it.

Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

A couple of years ago I bought a TFA Digital Roofed Thermometer from Amazon - think I paid around £19 ish.  It's been in the shade on a north facing wall in the garden since I bought it and it's been totally reliable - I'm pleased with it.

    Hope that helps.

Mix 2tbsp of white, granulated sugar with 1tbsp of water and place on a spoon for a Bee to reach. Sometimes they're too exhausted to reach back to the hives when it's hot and dry.
