sarah's pondlife - sorry, i thought you were looking for cottage garden plants. How are you for penstemons - the miniature ones I mean. There is a lovely yellow one (pinquis" and I have one, only a foot high coveredin glorious lilac flowers. I am visiting Hestercombe gardens at the end of the month and will see which small perennials they use there for you as the gardens are the epitomy of the Arts and Crafts movement in gardens when the cottage style border was all the rage.
Perhaps bloggers would like to give me suggestions of bedding for my Olympic Ring garden next year. I have Aonium "Schwartzcof". orthopogon(black grass), and black pansies for the black ring and red pelargoniums and red double daisies for the red one. Green, I think will be a shaped box in the middle with small euphorbia around but, apart from yellow and blue pansies I need suggestions for the blue and yellow rings - plants with height and at their best when the Olympics are on.
oh happymarion,,,ive missed that programme....i would of watched that ...also am looking for cottage plants...was just hopeful of perhaps something a bit differant as such [if that makes sence]....not the norm ,,,but i just cant think of anything differant.i did put wild seed down however i think it may of been to late as im not sure they will flower ,shoots have all come up there about 4 or 5 inchs height.
also happymarion your olympic rings sounds brill will it be in front or back garden???? do you remeber on another blog about saying showing your garden etc,,,well i found out through the local council that they show gardens in the borough anyway im now showing mine and im so excited i cant tell you,,,and next year most of our locals are gonna do a joint garden venture.we were gonna do this year but some felt its to rushed but at least its something to look forward too.
kate are you going t hampton court? happymarion are you going too?
sarah's pondlife - I cannot afford Hampton Court this year as I am saving to have my potager landscaped in the autumn. I fear I will not be able to do all the bending I do now when I reach my nineties so am preparing for it. But I will follow it avidly on the TV. My Olympic rings are in the back garden which had a flat space available, unlike the front garden, full of shrubs and flowers. I cut out the rings using an old rim from a governess cart as template and nourished the soil with home-made compost as they were in the wild flower meadow which is poor soil deliberately. Originally I was going to edge the rings with box but blight took a lot of my cuttings so now they will have a neat little fence round each made from my bamboo which I harvest and temper. The spaces between the rings will be purple slate which looks great when it rains. So pleased to hear you can show your garden and share it - nothing like it.
