10/03/11 Two days ago I heard someone on the TV say "Hello". It was Monty Don saying he was coming back to Gardeners' World. I am so pleased that he is coming back and working in his own garden. Good to know Carol, Rachel and Joe will be there too.
WELCOME HOME MONTY. Great to see Carol retained and Rachel returning to the programme. What a team. Carol is so knowledgable and enthusiastic; such a bubbly character. Rachel's presence on the RHS show coverage last year rescued these shows. I only learnt of Monty's return last week and now I learn that old footage of Geoff Hamilton is available on DVD. Can life get any better. There are/have been some great people working on Gardeners' World. Geoff and Monty are the best.
Monty Toff-Toff-Posh-Posh Don – no connection to the viewer.
Carol Klein – oh look, she’s taking cuttings again, splitting perennials and getting plants for free – boring!
Alys was inspirational and Toby explained and inspired gardeners of all ages and experience – what a real shame to lose them – they will really be missed.
Best wishes to Alys and Toby for a prosperous future away from the fools who produce GW.
I’ll be staying in my garden on Friday evenings from now on!
What a shame that Gardeners World has come to this - a scrap over who should head it! Says it all really. No head gardener, no proper gardening instruction and no-one to enthuse over. If these things were all properly in place this blog and its sister blog would not exist.
We shoud have voted for who we all wanted to lead Gardeners World. As a person i like Monty but not his gardening style/instruction and cannot get to grips with G.W. while he's with it. We are all entitled to our own opinion and the common feeling does seem to be that he is not wanted on this show. I will not be watching for sure. Myself and fellow Open Gardening Tourers/Enthusiasts get very confused by his instruction style etc and so will be meeting at each others homes & gardens instead from now on. From something not so good has arisen something new & good instead! We have called ourselves the Friday Gardening Supper Club & will stick with that from now on.
I agree entirely with Violets blog comment Tues 8th March. We should all have been able to vote in who we the viewers wanted for g.world. I personally would have liked Chris Beardshaw to front g.world. He is inspiring and watchable and above all else a real gardener. His show gardens are beautiful and do-able. Why on earth he isn't at the helm i will never know. He is clearly from the same school of ways as Mr T & Geoff Hamilton combined-a simply wonderful mix of the two. His Flying Gardener series was so watchable & inspiring, from which i have learnt so much & i am still learning from his books. When he went on to g.world his style still shone through. Some presenters have it some do not - Alan had it, Carol has it, Alys has it & Chris has it, Monty alas does not.
I am realy disappointed to see Toby Buckland and Alys Fowler dropped from the GW team. Monty Don is a good presenter but one always has the uncomfortable feeling that the minute he gets a sniff of somelthing more exciting round the corner he will be off again. TB and AF were both real gardeners, Toby far more a Geoff hamilton than Monty could ever be.
