It doesn't look like Ajuga to my eyes, I get why people are thinking mint but it's quite similar to my emerging veronica.
Does it have square stems?

my Ajuga has a blue flower and leaves look very similar.

Could it be a Phygelius?
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

I think it's a phlox paniculata - looks just like mine which is just emerging, including the dead sticks!
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone
