  @Fire I have learnt so much from this forum having been directed to it by iSpot when I had put a photo of a plant that we didn't know. They told me that they weren't about "garden" plants (didn't know that the plant was one at the time) and suggested I tried this forum. Brilliant resource.

  This is a great forum, not just for plant advice. I enjoy the social aspects too, being able to chat with people who share my love of gardens.

  Always loved the forum, but I sometimes wish that the vocal minority would stop their carping and telling the rest of us what we are doing wrong. The forum has survived and indeed thrived for many years, so I imagine that the people who have been here long term are doing something right.

  @punkdoc 😊 as with any group of folk, there are those we get on well with and see eye to eye with, and a few others who rub us up the wrong way. 

  
  

  Over the years I’ve learned to ignore those who try to impose their views on me against my will … water off a duck’s back etc etc etc …  and heaven knows,  with all the rain we’ve been having lately we should be used to coping with that 🦆 🌧 😉

  I agree with @bertrand-mabel s comments and appreciate the advice given by many on this forum.  Thanks from me also and I hope that sometimes I help others out. Most of the negativity I just ignore. 

  Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

  I strolled in one afternoon last August ... and seem to still be here. 😁
  
  I think it is easy to feel you don't know enough to be helpful, but then someone comes along with a qu about a plant you grow, and you find you do know stuff that you didn't know you knew.  And, in turn, other people know stuff you don't.  Between us, we must grow a fair range of plants and that is why the forum works.
  
  One thing that has become clear to me is tending the same garden for a couple of decades makes a huge difference to the knowledge you accumulate and you could not learn this from books, etc.  Experiences (failures, successes, what works here, what's best there) are key.
