You sent me a brief personal message about this plan and this is the reply I sent back to you for the interest of the wider forum:

” Whereas my plan might be akin to the wiring diagram for a household plug, yours is the wiring diagram for a nuclear power station!

Speaking not just personally but probably on behalf of almost all forum members I would say few gardens have the space and few gardeners have the time, the enthusiasm, or the need to operate on such a level of complexity. Modern food supply chains means there is no need to grow so much.

Gardening is joyous and carefree; your approach sucks out the fun. Sorry to be blunt.”

that was j hf heide. his version was bit better that yours but not much
I showed the diagram to a librarian she said it was insane.
given that the diagram was created with spreadsheet
    at 1/2 in scale  per square 30ft x 40ft 720x 960 squares.
    thanks apt description diagram.

after this project is done i plan to do this type diagram
sequence of the uk dig for victory leaflet grow summer and winter.
a plan that is 30 ft x 90 ft though might do the plan in
dig for victory leaflet 23 a 30ftx 45ft plan first.

Judging by the proportions of this magnificent plot, I would say that it is larger than the average post WWII suburban garden in the British isles.

Once the average post WWII suburban gardener has installed a washing line for his dear wife’s weekly laundry, a path of a reasonable width to follow said washing line (allowing for turning at either end), a trampoline for his grandchildren to play on when they call, a place for the dog to lie and chew a bone, an area where a smallish table and four chairs could be arranged ready for the day when half an hour of sun permits a cup of coffee to be drunk, and a corner for the compost heap and bins, there is not a great deal of space left for vegetable growing at all.

Besides, the supermarket sells everything he could wish for at a time when he needs it.

Well, if you think the plan is pretty rubbish and the librarian thinks it’s insane, I do wonder why you wasted effort on updating the graphics. Maybe there should be a new category to post under ‘Things that are useless’. It will probably include most of the JML catalogue.

I'm sure the plan is fine and good for someone who has a big enough area of suitable land, and the time, motivation and climate to grow so many different things (assuming the different shapes and colours represent different plants). Maybe someone who has a smallholding or some such, many hours/days travel from shops selling fruit and veggies.

The original is much easier to understand! Not sure many modern uk gardeners would be interested in an intensive plan.
  • I'm frankly not sure if our war time obsessed friend even cares at all about gardening/growing, just raking over historical information @Grannybee

I wish I could tag "war garden 572" with the ignore tag. Unfortunately because he set his profile as private (why?) this is not possible. GŔRRR
