What bird makes a really loud single cheep?

  • Single cheep...has to be the greater spotted woodpecker. Had 2 on the feeders today...Mr & Mrs!

Our wren's grumpy cheep is very loud indeed.  So is the "happy" (probably territorial) song, of course - but any really loud single note call in the garden here, is most likely to be the wren.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Not a wren too  rich and fruity. @Liriodendron.  I think I'll go with the woodpecker - for now

Blue tits emit a very loud, single cheap. Love them.

Could be them too. To be honest, it was a few days ago now and I can't really remember the sound properly. It sounded bigger than a gqig if that makes any sense. @dappleshade

  • Could you take a recording and play it back here? (Next time you have some spare time to listen to passing birds).

It was a one off, I think @clematisdorset. I'm pretty sure it was up on the gutter behind me.

  • That is a shame, @B3.  I always think I can remember a bird's call, but I never can -  especially after a few hours. It is so frustrating, like having the ghost of an ear worm...
