We come under Barnet Council (N London) most houses here have a green bin. They are proposing to put our green waste charge up to £97. As I said before they only collect fortnightly, and the Christmas break is up to 6weeks now. I fill our bin every time and sometimes have to go to the tip on top of that. I do take some green waste to Allotments, but we have to be careful as the Allotment rules state we are not allowed to bring items from outside the site. No suitable space for compost bins at home.

Is that a garden bin? Maybe Haringey (next to Barnet) went for weekly collection because so few people have a bin. It's striking how differently two council runs their systems, though they are next door.
@Fire I assume the brown bins are the garden waste bins. They vary in colour across the country, ours are green. It's possible that many people haven't started using theirs this year yet.
Yes @Fire our garden waste bin is green. They originally collected weekly, then it went fortnightly, now they charge and it's not even a full year. I agree with a previous post it should all be part of the general council tax. If the elderly and disabled had to pay separately for the mobility bus, there would (quite rightly) be outrage, same for many other services, we should all pay in and use whatever service we need. Our daughter up the road in Bushey , comes under Hertfordshire, have different coloured bins.
