We've just paid for our garden waste collection £83. Collections are fortnightly except over Xmas. OH is annoyed at this latest price rise. Shame we can't ask for 6 months only when it's needed most.
Now, that would be a good idea. I'm sure lots of people don't pay for the service because they think that for half the yr they wouldn't get any use out of it. It might increase uptake.
Our council may come back out if a complete street has been missed, but the reaction is more likely to be along the lines of "Tough, we'll get it next time"
@KT53, the second time they missed mine it was the whole street. But they've not been back. I don't know if my neighbours have also reported it - the weather's been vile so not been out much!
Ours also come back the next day if you report a missed collection online. Possiby less efficient if you phone because that would depend on the person you speak to putting it in "the system". It's usually the green bin that gets missed after there's been a fine spring weekend and everyone has been gardening and packed their bin full. Apparently that means they have to empty the lorry more often, which takes time so the end of the round gets missed.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
A system where you could have the bin and book/pay for individual collections might suit those of us who only fill it occasionally. I wouldn't mind paying a few quid per individual collection, which I would probably have maybe three or four times a year. Probably hard to organise and plan capacity though.

Where I live in Hampshire I have to drive around looking for a bottle bank that is not full as glass is not uplifted here. The council even removed the bottle bank from the RC.
We put our glass out in a grey container next to the paper/card bin every fortnight. Opposite neighbours have an agreement with us to put overflow in a bin if there is space.
Our household rubbish collection is every three weeks. With only two of us, I rarely have more than 1 black bin bag in it, there is room for at least two or three. Our recycling, including glass, paper, plastics including food trays, and food waste are collected weekly. If any of the boxes, bag or bins are damaged, we can report this on the council website, and they will drop off a replacement and take away the old one. That can take a few weeks. We haven’t had a green bin refused yet, despite using a shredder to maximise the amount we can get in! The collectors only have to roll it a metre down the dropped pavement onto the road to the back of the van, so maybe they don’t notice. Thankfully we don’t have to book appointments for the tip ( sorry, recycling centre) but if your personal vehicle is a van, you do have to register it and get a permit, to dissuade businesses from avoiding commercial disposal fees. I do see a neighbour who runs a shop, turning up with her car packed out with flattened cardboard boxes though! I was tempted to report her, she is a shockingly aggressive driver, tailgates you if you drive at a sensible speed for the winding narrow lanes, and tried to overtake us on a blind bend. She had to brake hard and swerve back to avoid the poor cyclist coming the other way! Sorry, I digress.
