As usual the case concerned was somewhat different in reality, the coffee was much hotter than it should have been, and that was why the person sued and won. It's like the straight Bananas issue, a Daily Mail story.
Maybe we're thinking of different cases but the jury in the McDonalds case found McDonalds were 80% at fault due to the warning label being too small. Wikipedia suggests that coffee temperatures haven't been altered since then. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebeck_v._McDonald%27s_Restaurants At the time McDonalds were selling over 1m cups of coffee every day and most people were managing not to burn themselves. I'd be amazed if the accident could have been prevented by a warning label.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Regarding "bladed items" sent via mail. would not every RM depot need to have some sort of Xray/scanner to run every posted item thru to detect metal ? Little point in the RM putting this into practice if every other carrier doesn't have to comply. Is it H&S or some vain attempt to reduce knife crime ?
I have just looked around the room I am sitting in and can see plenty of things that could be used as a deadly weapon! Ballpoint pen, spoon, china and glass items (smashed and used),belt, cords, wires (strangulation),plastic bag, pillow (suffocation) and of course I could clobber someone with my laptop! I could have a field day with the things in my garage!!!!!

I should have said, I don't actually gulp down scalding hot tea (small sips until it's cooled down some, if I'm really in a hurry I add a splash of cold water because I don't take milk in it), but I want it to be hot hot hot to start with. Tea made with less-than-boiling-hot water is vile.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
I once badly scalded my throat on a take away coffee which was much, much hotter than usual. A painful lesson learned. Never thought to sue them though.
