Yeah, they never cease to fascinate me. I studied lichens at Uni many years ago so I can recognise the green 'goblets' as belonging to a Cladonia species, probably 'pyxidata' (Pixie Cup) but I'm stumped by the adjacent waxy brown protruberances. Are these another species or even not a lichen at all?

Sorry to take this thread sideways. Couldn't think where else to post the photos. I wonder if @wild edges might know, or know someone who knows?

The brown bits are associated with that black mat which is one of the pelt lichens (Peltigera). There are quite a few species though and I don't know much about lichens yet. I took some photos of pelt lichens a couple of weeks ago to learn more about them and haven't got around to it yet :#

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

aaaaah right ..... thankyou @wild edges. I did suspect I'd captured a 'montage' of lichens & mosses. Productive environments these stone walls.
