You count as many as you can see at one time. It's not easy but you just have to do your best.
Not a tit to be seen here and no Robins either. I'm a bit worried that there's a cat lurking somewhere and putting them off. Normally the dog would make sure the coast is clear
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
There is nothing to apologise for @wild edges. May I also say how sad for you to lose your dog. I know how that feels. Have to admit I have chickened out of doing the birdwatch. My "garden" is not a part of the house but a separate allotment made into a garden somewhat on the large size. Because of ill health this year I have been unable to do any physical work but my son kept it up to date whilst he was on a visit. It is only over the road but all the bird feeders are over there and haven't been replenished of late. With it having been so cold and wet I didn't think being in a cold shed for an hour would do me any favours and I would have to have alerted the birds that food was available once again. If it had been a case of looking out of a window from the house that would have been a different matter.
Many thanks for your help and I hope you have a successful Birdwatch.
57 birds of 13 species this morning. The great tits turned up late and no show at all from the coal tit but otherwise it was a good count for such mild weather. We had a lone male siskin that I've only seen once this year and more goldfinches than I've seen recently too. The neighbour's feeders are empty so that probably helped me out.

Classic, I did my count and submitted it yesterday. A short while ago we had a green woodpecker on the lawn digging out ants for ages, then a Jay flew in , haven't seen one of those for ages😕
6 million birds counted so far. The average person saw 27 birds and the average garden logged 1 goldfinch. I only mention that because we had a flock of 21 here Bullfinches are now so rare that the average is 0 I've seen quite a few recently in various local areas so they're not beyond recovery.
