I like the idea of the castle, @philippasmith2 Not sure that my wife is so keen on the idea. Now if she goes out for the day, who knows what she will find upon her return. 😎
Stick to your gun ( turrets ) King Andrew - your wife will be thrilled to own a castle - the rest of us can only dream
Thank you @Fairygirl I do have a metal rod and eleven screws in one ankle, courtesy of an accident ten years ago. I still have a limp, but not a wooden leg.
However, the metal in the leg does shrink in the cold weather, but not to the extent that I need an "extra"!!

We did seriously consider buying a castle at one stage, and I still have the sales particulars. The price tag of £x million was a challenge, but achievable if we made the castle our wedding business.
But I wanted the castle as a home!! In fact, I have the sales particulars of a couple of dozen castles, mainly Scottish, but never bought one.

You need to compare notes with my missus. She fell and broke her tibia in July. Now the not so proud owner of a rod the length of the bone, 4 screws and 2 pins, plus assorted scars from the surgery. What really annoyed her though was that she was stone cold sober when it happened.
I was sober when mine occurred. I had the smallest of seizures with one foot off the top stair (of fifteen). I lost my balance, fell down the stairs, got my foot caught between two of the balustrades, continued to tumble, and twisted my ankle round 90°, snapping both bones in the ankle in the process.
I let out a bit of a yelp, and my wife downstairs calmly asked if I was okay!!!!
It was only when she saw the angle my foot was, that she started to panic. She dialled 999, and the lady at the other end wanted to speak to me. She asked me to try and get to the bottom of the stairs for the ambulance crew, who took more than 30 minutes to arrive.
They'd been told I'd hurt my foot. An understatement.
I still have the physical scars, ten years (and two weeks) on.
Doctor told me the ankle would be stronger than the other. He was right. Three years ago I took a tumble, and the ankle held. Unfortunately the foot took the strain, and I snapped bones and nerves, so have lost the feeling permanently in half the foot.
But the ankle held strong. There was no "give" in it at all. Hence the greater damage to the foot. 😳
That sounds agonising, @rowlandscastle444. And poor Mrs @KT53. OH now insists I carry one of our walkie talkies when I’m in the remote parts of the garden and out of earshot. I have twisted my ankle a couple of times slipping down one of the slopes. Luckily, OH eventually noticed that I’d been missing for a while, and came to help me back to the house. My daughter had a work colleague whose ambition was to retire to a castle, and had been searching in Scotland and France. Not you, then, @rowlandscastle444!
You can buy a castle quite cheaply in France but it may need doing up! People are finding it quite hard to sell them so are are some in good condition going cheaply. Probably cost a fortune in Council Tax and upkeep.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
