There's definitely been a change here in recent years re climate @Obelixx . The trees are a good example, as you say. We have a TV prog just now, fronted by one of the well known weather presenters, and she's looking at all sorts of variations and examples, and the possible reasons for those changes, as well as what that might mean for future years. The east side of Scotland [the dry side] has been getting a lot of our weather this year, and we've been getting more of theirs. Our countryside prog [Landward] saw Dougie visiting a farm over in Angus when they were harvesting, and the chap was saying how wet July had been, and they'd had 90mm of rain, which is a lot for them. We had 138mm. Last year was our driest/hottest on record and we still had 78mm in that July. It just highlights the difference between the two sides. The east is traditionally the grain growing side as the climate suits that, whereas this side is more stock based because wheat/barley doesn't thrive due to that rainfall. The devastation in the east in recent weeks has been catastrophic. Millions of pounds worth of crops rotting. Many farmers are very worried about the future because of these frequent changes.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Wall-to-wall grey drabness with drizzle. Depressing.
As expected, my impatiens did not make it through last night's frost. Ahh well. I have cuttings doing well on the windowsill in the spare bedroom. One is in flower already, so hopefully the next generation is assured.
Saw a large white blob over you this morning on the weather map @Joyce Goldenlily wonder if it will get to us - midway along and just above the M4 corridor in Wales. Heavy frost here this morning and blowing a wicked easterly. Daughter off across the fields offering hay to the ponies. Water tanks full but pipes frozen at the moment, hope they unfreeze later today. Keep warm everyone.
There were about 4 ins of snow on my car when I went to go to the Dr. My neighbour was out with her children building a snowman in the field and kindly offered to drive me to the surgery. The tops of the hills around us were completely white, the local weather forecast had said Dartmoor would "probably" have some snow, and we were forecast for showers. Humph! Dog walk on the beach cancelled. It snowed steadily until lunchtime with a vicious wind.
Ooh, I'm a teeny bit jealous. 😁 We hardly ever get snow here. Bitterly cold and drizzly today. Crisp, crunchy snow under a blue sunny sky - nothing more lovely, IMV. ❤️
