Faraday Box Con

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
After having the contents of our car stolen last year, we bought a faraday box which came with a couple of pouches  off Amazon.
I only got around to testing them today and found we've been conned😠,
They don't work at all. We were lucky that they didn't steal the car as well as the contents.
If you have one of these devices. Check it.
Does anyone know the range of the device that thieves use to activate your car key?

  • Oh no, scammers!  I don't know but I have heard of people putting keys in the microwave (when it is switched off...)

I've wrapped mine in tin foil and tested it. The car didn't start. Much safer than the microwave!

I had a car with key-less entry so bought two pouches from Halfords they seemed to work at a distance away but close up the car would unlock by itself, I wasn't 100% confident in the pouches. I got rid of the car after 20 months wouldn't buy another Renault but then again all makes have their odd duds don't they.

Biscuit tin with the lid on does the job

I tried a small tin but the car started. I suppose it matters what the tin is made of. Best to check that it works before you depend on it.

  • Have you tried a tin inside a tin? Surely that would work. The other thing with tins is sometimes the lid get stuck to the box, which could be a possible problem!

I'll stick with the tinfoil for now but I'll put it in a tin - belt and braces and I won't get caught with my leggings down😳
