In some soils the common grape hyacinth can be a problem. I have dug up buckets and buckets in a garden where they were out of control. They would continue to grow out of the soil too.
There is a rare soft yellow form that has the most beautiful scent but I think it must be tender, it grew one year in my garden then disappeared. I can remember the delicious scent to this day.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Mine started leafing up in July.
  • Thanks @GardenerSuze, i know some people find them a problem, but my soil seems to be on the poorer, dry side and I don't find plants multiply much at all unfortunately - I would love to have that problem! I am trying to improve my soil all the time and am removing the weed membrane that someone else laid. I think I have removed about 85-95% of it so far.

Even my woodland garden area is in less than optimal soil in dry shade and semi-shade adjoining the south-west boundaries which are mostly quite high and thick with lovely ivy/wall. I am collecting leaf-litter which I apply, along with home-made compost and bought-in mulches and composts.

If my woodland area was in the more exposed area of my garden.  I think it would receive more rain and sunlight, which would change things.

Those soft yellow scented muscari sound lovely. I think Crocus sells them. Are these the ones you remember? A lovely suggestion, thanks!
