Muscari bulbs shot up in under 2 weeks in autumn

My muscari armeniacum bulbs have shoots and I only planted these bulbs 12 days ago. What happens next? Might they flower this autumn and not in spring? Is there anything I should do to intervene please?!

They'll slow down as temps cool, and flower at the usual time. The foliage always appears at this time of year on muscari.  :)

  • Thank you @Fairygirl! I had never noticed the leaves before in autumn. I will leave them to do their thing then.  :)

If you don't get much of a winter, they may well flower a bit earlier than usual, but that's the same as any other plant if conditions change a bit  :)

All our grape hyacinths are in leaf now @clematisdorset, same as last year. They flowered at their normal time though so don't worry.
  • Thank you @Fairygirl & @Songbird-2, that sounds good and it is lovely to see the green shoots and leaves appearing, as a reminder that spring will come. Out of interest, when is the earliest and latest you have seen your muscari appear? I have not grown them for a few years. The packet says they are due to bloom in March to April. Have you ever seen them blooming in January/February or June, for instance?  :)

Not Jan/Feb here, no. Probably April into May as our season is later. They wouldn't be likely to bloom as late as June though, although I expect you could get the odd one still in flower.
I only grow the white ones as I don't like blue, and they can be very invasive in some areas too, as they spread readily.

  • Thankyou @Fairygirl. Your white ones sound nice. I hope mine return again. The ones in pots might not but I hope the ones I put in the ground do. My blue ones are with some daffodils, so they might flower at the same time.

There's no reason why they wouldn't return in pots. You might have to separate them in future if they get congested  :)
There's a good chance you'll get an overlap with your daffs, but it'll depend on the room they all have, and what variety those are, as they don't all flower at the same time.

@clematisdorset, our bulbs flower about April. This year I planted  out some bulbs from pots into the ground. They flowered as normal but didn't look right in the spot so I've put them back in the pot! Leaves are coming up thick and fast now, I also  have a couple of pots of grape hyacinths which haven't been touched and they come back year after year. They make a lovely display in Spring.
  • Thanks @Songbird-2, it is good that you were able to move them to a spot that worked better. I might need to do that next year too. They are so tiny that the right place is important partly so that they can be appreciated by us humans! I think my old bulbs only came up the following year and not again. Maybe I did not plant deep enough, or maybe I planted them in very thin plastic pots and the conditions were wrong. (I am using either terracotta pots  or planting under deciduous shrubs and trees for bulbs this time). I can't wait to see them bloom next year.
