Can I mend my toasted sandwich maker?

I came across an old toasted sandwich maker. The clip that held the handles broke and was probably thrown away. I have another better quality one but the broken one has additional panini and waffle plates so I'd like to use it if possible. I was thinking along the lines of a large enough  bulldog clip - if such a thing exists. I remember having a go with the largest one I could find but it the jaws barely opened wide enough and it just slid off. Has anyone got a better idea?

    Thanks @Balgay.Hill I'll do that.
It's in a climb up on a chair cupboard. Will fish it down later @pansyface😊

@Balgay.Hill. That looks just the kind of thing. Will get  a cheapo somewhere. It doesn't need a lot of strength.

Not an elegant solution, but could you not just put a brick on it?

Last resort @Loxley. How much do I really need A panini?

I’ve just looked at those G clamps. That’s the sort of thing I was thinking might work, as long as the plastic part is heat proof. 🤞

There are many different types. Some 100% metal, and some with plastic or rubber parts.

Have a look for a local repair café. This one is a bit far but there are others - they might have a good idea or even a part.

We have a Ridge Monkey pan (Google it!) for camping. It's essentially a small hinged pan that you can split into 2 separate open frying pans or use as a closed Dutch Oven type of thing. It is a very similar form & size to a sandwichmaker but used over a campfire / gas burner.

The 2 handles (one for each pan) hold together to make one bigger handle when using it as a closed pan.

The closure 'mechanism' is a small but effective magnet (about 5mm diameter) on the inside of each of the 2 handles. They are opposite poles so attract quite strongly and hold together well. I think they're just stuck on.
