The saddest sound in the garden

Is.....
Our neighbour dropping all his beautiful apples into his garden waste bin.
We'd offer to take them, but we're appled out and will press ours for cider and I'll make chutney.
Plonk, plonk
I'm sure someone could make use of them.

I guess the reality is there are lots of mature apple trees in gardens here each producing a huge number of apples and no one wants more.
As I walk with my dog some houses have boxes or trays of apples on their drive for folk to help themselves.
My neighbour has a huge Discovery that was laden - they don't eat apples - those hanging in my garden were very nice.
Similar with my other neighbour.
If I look out of my bedroom window I can see loads of laden apple trees - a real wasp-fest!

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
Having spoken to them to let them know what was happening whilst they were out, they then let it out each day on returning from work. It made an horrific sound as it found freedom this was followed by a sickly thump as it ran into our fence. It happened may times and although I am not fond of dogs that soundstays with me.
If you search for 'community apple press' on Google there seem to be any number of projects - lots in Yorkshire it seems!
We share any excess produce with neighbours and some reciprocate. There's a scheme in a village not far from us where everyone puts their excess into a community swap scheme with surplus going to food banks.
Perhaps @Penny_Forthem you could offer to take your neighbour's surplus to the food bank yourself or, at least, put it on your compost heap.
