When we bought our house in Harrow in '83, the bathroom suite was turquoise and the obviously home laid wall tiles were blue and white.   We changed it all in 1984 but a white suite was going to be seriously expensive with a delay on delivery so we went with ivory/cream.  North facing bathroom so it was OK.

  • My mum whisked evaporated milk until it filled a large jug. My MIL just poured it straight out of the tin. Mind you my mum always poured the ordinary milk into a jug and MIL just put the bottle on the table.
I think it was cos mum was 'in service' before the war.

  • 4" kitchen splash back tiles!
For years I looked for tiles that I really liked and found some that were just alright. I don't do alright so I waited...and waited...
One day while gazing at some more alright tiles and thinking I'd have to go with them, a man came through the stock room door with his coffee and there, on the floor, just inside the door were my tiles!!! They were an inch thick in dust and the sellotape on the box was all brown and unsticky but finally I had found my tiles. Oh how we joked about how old they were as we piled them into the boot of my car. The colour is perfect, I love it, and the size/style/fashion is totally immaterial to me. 😍

    What colour are they?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • They're kind of a weird blue. Not purple, which seems to be the modern day vision of blue. Navy was what I started looking for but again apparently shades of navy are a thing and the shade I wanted doesn't exist.

I have to admit, I've never seen weird blue on a paint chart.🤔

  • Weird names too - crushed blueberry sundae and the like!

Well look harder! It's definitely there. 🤣
It's kind of a wifty-wafty, shadey, pale indigoy colour that, hopefully, won't take over the whole kitchen. I'm sure you'll agree it sounds delicious.

Elephant's breath. Has anyone ever "seen" an elephant's breath ?

Lovely. I'm seeing one of the blues on a willow pattern plate.
