Help needed Peperomia Hope!

I have only recently managed to get a Peperomia Hope. Shortly after repotting into a mixed well draining soil, I noticed the leaves had strange marks on them. Has anyone seen the below happen to their plants before and can advise please? Thank you so much for help in advance.

How much direct sun does it get? They're really easy going plants so once they're in the right conditions they can deal with most things. Don't use tap water for then though as they're basically epiphytes and quite sensitive to chemicals.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Thanks for your reply. I originally popped it on a window sill with quite a lot of morning light. I was wondering if maybe it got scorched? I have since moved it to a sill that gets less afternoon light. Thanks for the tip about tap water. I didn’t realise that. Is distilled water the way to go?

Maybe I've been lucky but I've not had any issues using tap water for my Peperomia Hope. It gets direct sun until early afternoon (south east facing window). The compost should be allowed to dry out between waterings. It should never stand in water. Excess water can lead it to 'sweat' through the leaves (guttation). Perhaps this can cause damage or leave a residue? Water droplets could also cause burning if in direct sun.

I just checked my plants and found a couple of similar leaves on the older stems. I've got four plants at the moment, one in a north facing window, one facing southish but slightly shaded and two facing west. The aspect doesn't seem to bother them but I did wonder if water had been on the leaf surface in direct sun which could have had a lens effect. Hard to say though sorry but it doesn't seem to be anything of concern. I'd pop those leaves off and use them to propagate new plants. There should be enough time for them to root now but you could wait until spring. You'll need to move the plant into a hanging pot next year as they trail really nicely but the stems get very long.

Thank you so much for your thoughts Wild Edges and Loxley. Hopefully I’m just worrying unnecessarily. Perhaps it was water droplets, I’ll be much more careful. I keen to try propagating. Have you found soil or water more successful please Wild Edges? Im really looking forward to this plant starting to trail when it’s a bit bigger. ❤️
  • In one of my local garden centres recently I noticed a note beside their display of these plants reading "Yes, I'm real, please do not squeeze me".  Could your plant be a victim of this plant thuggery 🫣?!

I think I got lucky with my cuttings as my toddler ripped a load of leaves off and I just stuck them in gritty soil to see what would happen. They all rooted but were very slow growing. I kept the soil moister than I would for other succulents. Stem cuttings are easier and quicker but your plant will need to be bigger before it's worth pruning for those. I'd probably do the leaves in soil again but stem cuttings might be better started in water. I might do some more now I'm thinking about it, you can never have enough of these.

I think that is unlikely, but I’ll double check with my boyfriend!!! 🤣
  • Thank you for the tips. I have popped the leaves on some soil. Fingers cross for your propagation and mine! 🤞 I really hope no more of these strange marks will appear. Glad that so far no one thinks it disease etc.
  • I wondered whether the damage might have been done prior to purchase rather than in house @rachel.travel🤔
