Until January this year I had six unopened boxes of belongings in my garage which had been there since I moved in 10 years ago! I decided to have an overdue clear out, kept nothing in them, everything went either to the charity shop or tip. I don't have a garden shed or greenhouse so I use my garage for storing everything gardening related, now arranged neatly stored on shelves or dedicated spaces on the floor. It makes a big difference once you've done this to keep the discipline going. I don't keep any excess pots or equipment that doesn't work and anything in the garden that doesn't look quite right or is a mistake gets promptly removed once the decision is made! Last week I got a second garden waste bin delivered to help with this mission, so watch out underperforming plants, especially those tall, airy perennials that got battered by wind and rain this summer!
I don't feel guilty about trying to move. Yes, we'll leave plants, that I will miss, and that others may concrete over. It will be a shame, but the new place is far better, so y will concentrate on that.
I must admit that my wife persuaded me to have a clear-out of plastic pots, and of glass jars, earlier in the year.
Firstly, I now find myself short of glass storage jars for stewed apple and jam. Means I will need to beg from friends (assuming they haven't been as "prudent" as me), or dare I say it, buy some more. Actually, with jam so cheap in Aldi, it's cheaper to buy their jam, dispose of it, and wash the jars, than order new jars!! Who'd have thought it!!?
Secondly, because I find myself short of plastic pots, I've avoided potting up so many seedlings. So I guess, it's been successful in one area.
Of course, my wife has suggested not stewing fruit, or making jam - so, having tended to the trees and bushes all year, she expects me to give the produce away. (Freezer is already full)
I know someone who goes for a walk around their neighbourhood early morning on bin/recycling day when she needs jam jars.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
My new seed trays have arrived and my new pots are on their way. 😳

I’m sure others can do so much better but here’s my stash of pots. Can I apologise for the moderately orderly stacking - I look forward to seeing more slapdash ways.
Would that my pots were so neatly stacked. They start the year in some sort of order but by the end of summer they are a right mess. I fear the spiders lurking in the storage bins.
I love my hoard of pots! and still seem to run out.
I am a self confessed seed hoarder. I collect from my flowers and those of others, from veggies where appropriate, from wildflowers, and even from seed merchants. And then have more than I really know what to do with but convince myself that at least I have plenty of choice.
Growing from collected seeds is such fun.....you never know quite what you will get. I have a beautiful bronze leafed tree in my garden that has the smallest pale pink flowers in spring and it grew from a fruit that I picked up on a walk. Ditto the vicious rose that is enormous but has the nicest smelling flowers and resembles a pimpinellifolia on drugs.
I'm really chuffed with myself for getting rid of most of the round pots in my garden storage 'coffin '. I probably would be less proud if I ventured into the garage.I vaguely remember bin bags full of pots😐 For some reason, I was unable to throw out the brightly coloured round pots so there's red, purple and yellow. They might look nice with an appropriately coloured plant in them. That's my excuse anyway. There's also a bag for life half full of broken bits of terracotta and I'm sure there's a bag of dried holly for the four-legged fiends somewhere. The pasta pot that doesn't work on the induction hob is in there too despite the excellent advice on how to use it. Then there's a box of plant labels. Many/ most of the plants are long gone. Some I don't even remember buying.
