Cosmos

Hi out there. Re these cosmos. They are actually getting a few more buds on. My neighbour has NOW said too much water will stop the buds and just make them very tall. So why are they doing ok at one end away from next door big Bush. Only water every evening when we have had no rain that day.
The photo is the same one I have put on here already. Need to take a new one before it all dies.

Nothing to do with watering - more water will just make them grow bigger, and therefore usually flower later. That's why pinching the tips out when they're younger can help as it encourages them to branch out rather than just go 'up', and the flowers will appear at a lower height. They're easier to grow in drier areas with poorer soil, for that reason.
