Wrong seeds

sowed  Mr Fothergills Money Maker  seeds but ended up with a beef tomato. I used them staight out of a new packet. That's my crop of money maker tomatoes I should have had wasted by this.

Over the last few years I've had numerous wrong tomatoes from many different  sources. Some of this year's aren't even the same wrong from the same packet.

    In the sticks near Peterborough

Contact Mr Fothergills and let them know, with pics of the tomatoes and seed packet (front and back) if you still have it. They might not give you your money back but they might want to investigate the problem. Is there any writing on the inner packet if there is one?
On the bright side, beef tomatoes can be good and tasty.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • As per @Nutcutlet  I have had the same issue with tomatoes the last couple of years. It also seems a case with other seeds going off experiences posted on here.

Buy the tomatoes. M&S & others sell heritage ones if you want something fancy.  Squish one and save the seeds. At least you'll be sure what you're sowing.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Found the packet so sent details tt MrF   but they will just send me a replacement packet. Can't trust sowing there seed again,
  • Send Mr F a complaint recieved the standard reply and replacement seeds. They are not interested in any complaints. Will be using a new seed company one that is not the same group as Mr F.  They have removed all reviews from their website that tells you something. As for the beef tomatoes I made chutney  with them.

I like Real Seeds, Simply Seed and Chiltern Seeds. You could maybe have a look and see if any of them have what you want next year.

I'd echo that @JennyJ, and Seedaholic is also good because you can buy smaller packs and experiment more.
I only grow cherry/plum toms, and you can also save seed from supermarket toms and get a decent crop. It really depends on how you want to use toms.  :)
Moneymaker has been a bit iffy recently from what I can gather, although Gardeners' Delight [ironically] seems to be by far the worst in terms of reliability.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

These things happen. They replied and replaced the seed, not sure what more you were wanting? I received the wrong bulbs from another supplier this year, only found out when they grew and became something else, spoiled the look of my pots but hey ho, I contacted them and they did what mr fothergills did for you and replaced my bulbs. There are plenty of companies out there that wouldn’t of even bothered to reply to your complaint (gardening express for one).
